Marissa was honoured to be featured in the Blueprint, sharing her personal journey as a lung cancer survivor and highlighting the importance of early detection, screening and timely access to care.
The Blueprint outlines key actions to improve lung cancer outcomes across Australia, with a dedicated focus on advancing equitable outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Recommendations include strengthening early detection and diagnostic pathways, improving access to specialist treatment, embedding culturally safe and community-led models of care, removing barriers to care, and building a sustainable culturally safe workforce.
Marissa’s contribution reflects Bidgerdii’s ongoing commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and advocating for accessible, culturally safe healthcare.
This important event provided an opportunity to contribute to a national conversation focused on improving lung cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, while ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples receive the care and support they need, when they need it.
