Indigenous Children Within Rockhampton

We recognise the importance of supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children from birth to 8 years, alongside their families, to grow strong in culture, health, and learning.

Our programs focus on creating safe, nurturing spaces where children can thrive and families feel supported, connected, and empowered in their parenting journey.

Connected Beginnings

Connected Beginnings works to improve the maternal and child health, development, and educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children – ensuring they’re ready to thrive at school by the age of five.

The program supports the integration of early childhood education, maternal and child health, and family support services to better meet the needs of families. By working together, these services help close the gap in school readiness and improve long-term outcomes for our children.

First 1000 Days

The First 1000 Days program aims to improve health, development, and educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children by supporting families during a child’s first 1000 days.

It helps connect pregnant women and families with existing health, wellbeing, and child development services – ensuring children have the best possible start in life.

Child Health Checks (715)

Child Health Checks play a vital role in ensuring children grow up healthy and strong. These comprehensive checks, recommended every 9 to 12 months, help identify any health or development concerns early on.

They are available at any Bidgerdii Community Health Service location, where our dedicated team provide culturally safe care and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

CHILD 715 HEALTH CHECKS

ASQ-TRAK

The ASQ-TRAK is a simple, family-friendly way to check how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are growing and developing from 2 months up to 5 and a half years old.

This tool helps identify what your child is doing well and spots any areas where they might need a bit of extra support early on. It’s designed to involve families by having caregivers take part in the process, so you get to learn more about your child’s development and skills while being supported by the health team.

Deadly Kindies Kit

Kindy is a Deadly Choice!

The Deadly Kindies Program supports increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children’s attendance in kindergarten across Queensland.

Deadly Kindy Kits are available for children aged 3 to 4 years who are up to date with their 715 Health Check and enrolled in any Queensland Government-approved kindergarten.

Deadly Choices Birth Certificates

Deadly Choices Birth Certificate Packages – including a standard birth certificate – are available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged birth to 5 years, born in Queensland.

To qualify, children must have a current 715 Health Check and be up to date with all their vaccinations.
