The Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters is a fun, free program that helps you support your child’s learning in the two years before they start school.
It gives you simple tools and activities to build your child’s confidence and skills — setting them up for a strong start in education.
HIPPY Rockhampton supports your child’s early learning by giving you the tools to be their first teacher. Each week or fortnight, you’ll receive activity packs and storybooks filled with fun, play-based learning, all designed to help your child grow in confidence and get ready for school.
Tutors work one-on-one with you to practice activities, offer support, and encourage a ‘have-a-go’ attitude. With just 10–15 minutes a day, you can make a lifelong difference in your child’s learning journey.
HIPPY is about more than education – it’s about connection. You’ll meet other parents, learn more about your local community, and even explore future pathways through HIPPY’s Tutor roles and training opportunities.

HIPPY Tutors are local parents who have experienced the program themselves and are trained to support other families on their learning journey. As a Tutor, you’ll work closely with families, practicing activities, building confidence, and encouraging lifelong learning.
Tutors are paid employees and receive regular training and support from the HIPPY Coordinator. It’s a great opportunity to build skills, gain work experience, and take steps toward further training or employment.
